The Bihar government has greenlit a hefty Rs 882 crore investment for the enhancement of the Punaura Dham Janki Mandir, a historic and religious site believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, located in Sitamarhi district.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, after a cabinet meeting, announced this ambitious project, stating it aims to emulate the scale of Ayodhya's celebrated Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra. The comprehensive plan encompasses the construction of a grand temple along with various supporting structures.

The proposal includes Rs 137 crore for refurbishing the existing temple and an overwhelming Rs 728 crore for developing tourist amenities such as paths, parks, and parking. Roads leading to the pilgrimage site will also be enhanced, making it a pivotal religious destination.
