The renowned Kedarnath pilgrimage faced an unexpected halt on Thursday when a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, disrupted the journey at Munkatiya near Sonprayag. The incident has caused the route to the Himalayan temple to be entirely blocked by debris and stones.
In response to the situation, authorities decided to suspend the yatra temporarily to ensure the safety of all pilgrims. The blockage was centered at the Munkatiya sliding zone, posing a significant risk to travelers.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel swiftly intervened to rescue pilgrims trapped in the affected area, returning them safely to Sonprayag. Officials have declared a temporary pause in the pilgrimage, emphasizing precaution as the priority.
