Controversy Surrounds Repatriation of WII Director

The decision coincides with backlash over an email from the institute's administration, threatening salary withholding for non-participation in International Day of Yoga celebrations, which was later rescinded.

The Centre has officially approved the premature repatriation of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Director Virendra Tiwari to his original Maharashtra cadre, as confirmed by an official order made public recently.
Virendra Tiwari, a seasoned Indian Forest Service officer from the 1990 batch, was set to retire in August this year. The announcement of his early repatriation aligns closely with a minor controversy within the institute.
Just days earlier, an email from the WII administration threatened to withhold salaries of those employees who did not participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations held on June 21. Despite the email being quickly retracted, the event raised questions among the staff and observers.
