Supreme Court Stays 'Udaipur Files' Release Amid Controversy

The Supreme Court has extended the stay on the release of the controversial movie 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder', following the Centre's recommendation for six scene cuts. These actions hearken back to issues of free expression as detailed in Article 19.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta reported to Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi that further steps beyond these cuts could infringe upon personal opinions protected by law. The film's release, originally set for July 11, now hinges on compliance with these recommendations or a challenge to the order by filmmakers.

Scheduled discussions have been set for July 24 to further explore the balance between artistic representation and the rights of individuals involved in the associated real-life murder case, which has remained a polarizing subject. Notifications were also issued for preventing potential threats to involved parties.
