Tragedy Strikes Kanwar Yatra: Devotee Killed in Highway Accident
A kanwariya named Hansraj from Delhi died when his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway near Khatauli. He was returning from Haridwar during the Kanwar Yatra. Meanwhile, 68 other pilgrims were injured in separate incidents in the area.

Tragedy marred the fervor of the Kanwar Yatra as a devotee, identified as Hansraj from JJ Colony, Delhi, lost his life in a road accident. The mishap occurred on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway near Khatauli when an unidentified vehicle struck his motorcycle. Hansraj, aged 29, was returning home from Haridwar with sacred water, as confirmed by Circle Officer (CO) Ramashish Yadav.
The fatal incident took place on Tuesday, and authorities have since dispatched Hansraj's body for a post-mortem. In related developments, a spate of accidents has seen 68 kanwariyas injured across the district, sources from the district hospital revealed.
Among the injured, 30 were treated at the district hospital, while others received care at Purkazi and Khatauli health centers. Though most pilgrims continued their spiritual journey after treatment, those with severe injuries required hospitalization, officials stated. The wave of accidents comes as the Kanwar Yatra reached its final day.
