A delegation from the UK-based Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) recently conducted a preliminary inspection of World War II historical sites in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh. Officials confirmed the visit on Friday.
The delegation, led by Amit Bansal, CWGC's regional head for the Indian subcontinent, meticulously surveyed several key sites, including the WWII cemetery, Laal Pool, Hamilton Bridge, Hell Gate, and the historical stretch of the Old Stilwel Road leading to Pangsau Pass.
This initiative aims to upgrade these remnants of history to meet Commonwealth standards. Nampong MLA Laisam Simai emphasized the state government's dedication to the endeavor, promising support in enhancing the cemetery and other related assets.
