Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema criticized BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Friday for her remarks implying that Punjab's drug problem was negatively influencing the youth in Himachal Pradesh. Cheema condemned Ranaut's statements as absurd and irrelevant, claiming she sought media attention through sensational comments.
The AAP leader challenged why Ranaut remained silent on drug issues in BJP-controlled regions, alleging higher drug prevalence in BJP and Congress-ruled states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. Cheema emphasized Punjab's proactive measures to combat the drug menace.
Ranaut had highlighted alarming drug addiction rates in Himachal Pradesh, likening the situation to Punjab's portrayal in the film 'Udta Punjab'. She urged immediate interventions to avoid a similar future for Himachal. Himachal Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla also advocated for urgent government action and the establishment of modern de-addiction centers.
