The administration of Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple has announced a decisive step to ban plastic items starting August 11, aiming at keeping the holy site clean and eco-friendly, officials revealed.

Signage explaining the new regulation has been placed in strategic locations in and around the temple, clearly stating that visitors will not be permitted to bring plastic containers onto the premises. Devotees are encouraged to help in sustaining the sanctity and cleanliness of the revered 'dham', advocating for a zero-plastic environment.

According to temple officials, pilgrims will not be allowed to use plastic containers for offering water to Lord Shiva after the enforcement date. An awareness drive started at the beginning of the Shravan month, to dissuade visitors from bringing offerings in plastic vessels. The temple's Chief Executive Officer, Vishwabhushan Mishra, emphasized that Kashi Vishwanath Dham is not only a hub of spirituality but also can set benchmarks for cleanliness and environmental preservation. Support from the municipal corporation, NGOs, and volunteers strengthens this initiative, with aspirations to broaden the scope citywide in the future.
