A devastating fire swept through a holiday home for individuals with disabilities and their carers in the Charente region of southwest France, claiming at least three lives, critically injuring one person, and leaving two individuals missing and feared dead, according to local authorities.

The inferno erupted early Monday morning, around 4:30 am, at the guest house in Montmoreau. Authorities dispatched 24 fire engines and over 80 fire officers to combat the flames, which destroyed parts of the building, including the roof and exposed charred wooden beams.

Jean-Charles Jobart, secretary general of the Charente prefecture, confirmed that three individuals lost their lives, and two remain unaccounted for. The causes of the fire are believed to be accidental, and investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances.
