In Bokaro district, Jharkhand, a group of individuals, including a home guard, has been booked for allegedly assaulting a langur with sticks, officials reported on Monday. This incident has stirred significant concern among local residents and animal activists.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Harla police station, following the submission of video footage capturing the incident. Rajnish Kumar, Bokaro's Divisional Forest Officer, confirmed the filing and indicated that additional persons might be implicated pending further investigation.
The langur had caused panic in Bokaro Steel City over the past fortnight, injuring at least 20 people, including students. Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi has urged the Forest Department to address the incident with urgency. Kumar assured that the langur, now under treatment at Bokaro zoo, is showing signs of recovery.
