In a significant move to honor a historic figure, the Punjab government declared July 31 as a gazetted holiday in memory of freedom fighter Udham Singh. This step serves as a tribute to his sacrifices and aims to inspire the citizens.
Punjab Minister Aman Arora announced that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approached the central government with a proposal to rename the Patiala-Bhawanigarh road stretch after the revered freedom fighter. This initiative aligns with the state's ongoing effort to memorialize Udham Singh more prominently by naming the Bhawanigarh-Sunam-Bhikhi-Kot Shamir road in his honor.
The government is organizing a state-level commemoration at Sunam, Udham Singh's birthplace. Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party's national convener, along with Chief Minister Mann, will pay their respects at the event, marking a collective acknowledgment of the martyr's enduring legacy.
