Himachal's Struggles: Nature's Wrath and 'Drug-Free' Dreams

In a significant meeting on Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the devastating effects recent natural disasters have had on the region. The governor detailed the extensive damage from cloudbursts and landslides in Mandi district, highlighting the destruction caused during this year's monsoon.
Tragically, the state has experienced numerous calamities, with severe losses reported. Since June 20, the onset of the monsoon, the toll stands at 90 lives lost, and 35 individuals remain missing from rain-related incidents, compounded by Rs 1,523 crore in damages to infrastructure including 1,320 homes.
Governor Shukla also updated the Prime Minister on Himachal's comprehensive 'Drug-Free' campaign. This initiative aims to tackle substance abuse through heightened awareness and community involvement, while a recent national conference underscored the collective effort to establish a drug-free society by 2047.
