Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has unveiled plans to release his highly anticipated sports drama, 'Sitaare Zameen Par', through his Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel. The actor believes that this decision will enhance accessibility, ensuring that the film reaches a larger audience.
Scheduled for release on August 1, viewers can access the film via YouTube Movies on demand. In India, the film will cost Rs 100, while it will also be available in other countries like the US, UK, and Australia, with prices aligned to local currencies. In an interview with ANI, Khan justified his choice of a pay-per-view model on YouTube, highlighting its audience-engaging benefits.
The 'Lagaan' actor emphasized the necessity of online distribution in overcoming hurdles posed by a limited number of cinema screens in India, compared to nations like the U.S. and China. The pay-per-view plan intends to circumvent the scarcity of theatres and extend its reach to rural and urban homes alike, with families having the comfort of watching films at their convenience.
Addressing piracy risks, Khan mentioned appointing anti-piracy teams to combat illegal distribution of 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. By offering an affordable legal alternative, Khan's initiative aims to curb piracy and provide hope for creatives in the industry. He suggested that cinema's home-based pay-per-view model brings unmatched flexibility and accessibility.
'Sitaare Zameen Par' features Aamir Khan as a basketball coach nurturing neurodivergent children, with Genelia Deshmukh as a co-star. The film, a sequel to 'Taare Zameen Par', is directed by Prasanna and premiered in theatres on June 20, offering subtitles and dubbed versions to cater to global audiences. (ANI)
