Latur's Lush Revival: A Journey from Rivers to Roots
Latur, Maharashtra, has transformed through The Art of Living Social Projects' river rejuvenation initiative, inspired by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Focusing on biodiversity, sustainable farming, and climate-resilient practices, the initiative actively restores natural habitats and boosts farmer incomes, setting an exemplary model for ecological and community development.

The drought-prone region of Latur in Maharashtra has undergone a dramatic transformation since 2013, largely due to a large-scale river rejuvenation initiative by The Art of Living Social Projects. Under the guidance of spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Shri Gomare Mahadev, this initiative has evolved into a holistic ecological mission, integrating water conservation, plantation drives, natural farming, and climate-resilient fodder cultivation.
As part of the initiative, The Art of Living has planted over 5 lakh saplings, with plans to plant an additional 2 lakh more to further restore biodiversity and empower local farmers. This initiative has also introduced fodder cultivation across 200 acres, a strategic climate adaptation move to bolster livestock productivity and ecological resilience.
The project has achieved impressive results, including a 100% plant survival rate—a stark contrast to the government benchmark of 60%. Collaborations with various partners and ongoing biodiverse plantations are not just revitalizing the land but also creating sustainable income avenues for local communities.
