Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday visited the Sabarmati Ashram, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, whose teachings he believes remain impactful today. Abdullah placed a khadi garland on Gandhi's statue and attempted to spin a traditional 'charkha'.
In a social media post, Abdullah expressed feeling both humbled and privileged during his visit to the historic ashram, founded by Gandhi in 1917. He highlighted a quote from Gandhi about the essence of democracy being grassroots-driven rather than controlled by a select few at the top.
During his visit to Gujarat, Abdullah also explored the Statue of Unity and Sardar Sarovar Dam, as part of an initiative to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Abdullah's tour, emphasizing its potential to inspire other Indians to explore various parts of the country.
