The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a significant financial boost for a school dedicated to hearing and visually impaired students. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday revealed plans to increase the annual grant-in-aid for the Donyi Polo Mission School from Rs 1.4 crore to Rs 2 crore.
An additional Rs 5 crore corpus fund will also be established to ensure the school's financial sustainability. This commitment will be formalized in the upcoming state budget, Mein confirmed during the 'Let's Speak Arunachal' initiative, which aims to empower differently-abled youth through enhanced public speaking skills.
The school was founded by former Chief Minister Gegong Apang in 1990 and has been a beacon for free education and skill development for children with disabilities. Mein also stressed the importance of communication skills and praised those involved in the ongoing workshops, especially founder Porsum Ori and secretary Tana Jiri.
