Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai took a momentous trip to Nagpur to honor FIDE Chess World Cup champion Divya Deshmukh. The visit underscored their family connections and highlighted Deshmukh's remarkable feat as she becomes the youngest winner of the Women's World Cup title.
At just 19, Deshmukh bested fellow Indian Koneru Humpy in the tie-breaker final in Batumi, Georgia, on July 28, earning not only the prestigious title but also advancing to Grandmaster status. Her victory has put her in the spotlight of the chess world.
In Nagpur, she was also honored by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The reunion with CJI Gavai was poignant, as they shared fond memories of their families' close ties, reflecting on a bond that feels like family beyond rivalry.
