President Tharman Shanmugaratnam recognized migrant workers, including Indian nationals, for their admirable rescue efforts during National Day events at Singapore's Istana. These workers played pivotal roles in two intense rescue situations.

In July, an Indian foreman and his team saved a woman trapped in a vehicle at Tanjong Katong Road South. Meanwhile, another group of workers swiftly intervened during a fire at a River Valley shophouse, establishing scaffolding to rescue children from the flames. This valor was publicly appreciated by President Tharman and First Lady Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam.

These workers, crucial to community safety, received mementos and governmental commendations for their life-saving endeavors. Additionally, a nonprofit organization raised over SGD72,000 to support the workers, reflecting public gratitude.
