The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) students' association has vehemently criticized the awarding of 'The Kerala Story' at the National Film Awards. The group warns that the government-backed accolade could have perilous implications.
Director Sudipto Sen received the Best Director award for the contentious 2023 film, which also earned Best Cinematography. The film depicts women in Kerala allegedly recruited by the Islamic State.
In their statement, FTII students claim the film promotes a falsified narrative that endangers communal harmony. They argue such government-endorsed awards legitimize misinformation and intolerance.
