The Thane municipal corporation has increased its Ganesh idol immersion facilities, putting a focus on artificial lakes for the upcoming festival.

The 11-day Ganesh festival, celebrated from August 27 to September 6, mandates idols up to six feet in height to be immersed in artificial lakes. Taller idols may be immersed in natural water bodies, as per TMC commissioner Saurabh Rao.

Rao announced that, complying with high court orders, the immersion infrastructure now includes 132 locations with 24 artificial lakes, 74 tank sites, 15 mobile units, nine ghats, and 10 acceptance centers. The mobile units, introduced last year, received favorable public feedback.
