Veteran poet-lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently paid homage to the iconic filmmaker Guru Dutt, sharing how deeply influenced he was by Dutt's cinematic vision. Akhtar, now 80, spoke at a centenary tribute event in Mumbai, revealing his unfulfilled dream of working with the late legend.
Despite his hopes, Akhtar never got the chance to assist Dutt, who passed away shortly after Akhtar arrived in Mumbai in 1964. Esteemed filmmakers Sudhir Mishra, Hansal Mehta, and R Balki joined the session, each offering insights into Dutt's enduring influence on their work.
The event included a special screening of 'Pyaasa', attended by Dutt's family. The retrospective screening of his notable films from August 8 to 14 further commemorates his legacy, highlighting his pioneering visual storytelling techniques.
