In a shocking development, Abdul Kadir Ali Mohammed, known for his association with the late drug smuggler Iqbal Mirchi, has been detained by police. He is alleged to have demolished a theatre in Mumbai, which was under Enforcement Directorate (ED) attachment, and attempted to sell the land for Rs 15 crore.
The New Roshan Talkies theatre in Girgaon was provisionally attached by the ED amid a money laundering investigation linked to Mirchi. Despite this, officials claim Abdul, aged 75, illegally demolished the structure and almost finalized a transaction to sell the site to a businessman from Madhya Pradesh.
Authorities are delving into possible manipulation of property records as Abdul allegedly acquired the plot's ownership fraudulently. This historical theatre, now embroiled in controversy, was originally purchased in 1982 with Abdul making substantial financial contributions.
