Kerala High Court Pauses Proceedings in Shwetha Menon Obscenity Case

The Kerala High Court has granted a temporary reprieve to Shwetha Menon, a well-known Malayalam film actress, by staying the proceedings related to an FIR filed against her. The FIR alleges that Menon unlawfully published or transmitted obscene material from her previous films and advertisements.

The interim decision was delivered by Justice V G Arun in response to a petition submitted by Menon, seeking to annul the FIR. Furthermore, the court has issued notices to both the state authorities and the individual who initially filed the complaint leading to the magistrate's court's order to lodge the FIR.

The charges against Menon are under Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Simultaneously, Menon is a candidate for the president's role in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), with elections set for August 15.
