The Maharashtra government has asked the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to intervene in the release of the Marathi film 'Khalid Ka Shivaji'. This request was made due to claims by right-wing groups that the film distorts the history of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and might create law-and-order issues.
State Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant criticized the BJP-led government's action, calling it politically motivated and baseless, arguing that the decision was made merely from a trailer without understanding the film's full content. Sawant accused BJP of using the film to promote a divisive political ideology.
Amidst growing tension, the film's portrayal of Shivaji Maharaj has sparked debates about historical accuracy and cultural representation. 'Khalid Ka Shivaji' had the honour of being selected for the Cannes Film Festival, signifying its international recognition despite the current controversy.
