Incessant rains in Uttarkashi have critically hindered rescue operations in disaster-stricken Dharali and Harsil. Authorities confirmed the recovery of one body while 42 people remain unaccounted for, nearly a week after devastating flash floods.
Among the missing are nine army personnel and residents from several areas including Dharali, with initial hopes of locating survivors diminished due to ongoing adverse weather. The restoration of mobile networks has enabled contact with some missing Nepali laborers, suggesting others may have found temporary refuge elsewhere.
Financial relief is being distributed to those affected, and a vital Bailey bridge was swiftly constructed to re-establish road connectivity. However, inclement weather continues to pose significant challenges to rescue and relief efforts, with forecasts predicting further heavy rain across the region.
