The Kolkata Police on Saturday halted the planned trailer launch of the controversial film 'The Bengal Files', directed by Vivek Agnihotri, which explores the 1946 Calcutta Riots. Scheduled to premiere at a five-star hotel in the afternoon, the event faced an unexpected interruption.
Police personnel at the venue refrained from commenting on the situation. However, Agnihotri expressed that this incident constituted an infringement on democratic rights, especially given that the censor board had previously cleared the film and the Calcutta High Court had stayed a ban on its release.
'The Bengal Files', delving into the communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, is set for theatrical release on September 5, despite the obstacles it faces.
