A 32-year-old participant known as Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari fell to his death during Dahi Handi festivities in Mankhurd, Mumbai, this Saturday afternoon, authorities reported. The incident occurred as Chaudhari was attempting to tie the iconic earthen pot filled with curd to a rope.
According to local officials, Chaudhari succumbed to injuries after he fell from a first-floor window grille at his home in Maharashtra Nagar. After the fall, he was taken to the civic-run Shatabdi Govandi Hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival.
During the celebrations, which unfolded in the midst of Mumbai's torrential downpours, at least 30 participants sustained injuries as they endeavored to construct human pyramids, synonymous with the festival's spirit. Fifteen individuals remain hospitalized, while the rest have been treated and released, officials confirmed.
