In Kishtwar's Chisoti village, search and rescue operations continue after a catastrophic cloudburst struck on August 14. Sixty people have died, and eighty remain missing as the fourth day of recovery efforts sees rescuers focused on clearing a critical site.
With connectivity severed, army engineers are constructing a bailey bridge to ensure access to the village and the nearby Machail Mata shrine, intensifying rescue efforts. The flash-floods demolished homes, a market, community kitchen site, temples, and more. Rescuers are battling time and debris using explosives to clear blockages.
Fifty victims' bodies have been identified, and the Machail Mata yatra remains suspended. Authorities, including the army and disaster response teams, are working to restore stability with medical, food, and infrastructural support under a 'whole of nation' approach.
