Nature Morte's innovative 'Salon Series' has launched its first exhibition titled 'Salon: The India Way', seeking to connect Indian and international modernism in a fresh manner. Curated by Poonji Nath, the exhibition brings together works from notable artists like Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Indian counterparts such as Manjit Bawa and Tyeb Mehta.
Drawing inspiration from the historic Paris Salon, the exhibition aims to revive its original purpose as a site for public encounter and artistic exchange. Devashi Jain helms the initiative, which will also include curated sales, salon-style shows, and advisory services to provide Indian collectors with rare access to both domestic and international blue-chip artists.
The exhibition challenges the notion of modernism as a one-way inheritance by placing Indian and Western modernists side by side. It features works from artists like Alberto Giacometti and FN Souza, running from August 15 to September 15, and emphasizes co-presence over comparison.
