Transgender Woman Convicted in Landmark Consent Case
Ciara Watkin, a 21-year-old transgender woman, has been found guilty of sexual assault for not disclosing her gender identity to a male partner during intimacy. The lack of disclosure meant the man could not give informed consent, significantly impacting his mental health. Watkin's sentencing awaits.

In a precedent-setting legal case, transgender woman Ciara Watkin, 21, has been convicted of sexual assault for failing to disclose her gender identity to a male partner, British prosecutors announced Friday.
Watkin met the man, also 21, on Snapchat in June 2022 and withheld her transgender status during their initial encounter. Prosecutors revealed that she later informed him via text message that she was transgender, prompting legal action.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Sarah Nelson emphasized that informed consent was not obtained, affecting the victim's mental health. Watkin will be sentenced in October after being found guilty at Teesside Crown Court.
