In a touching gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally financed the purchase of 'pulla,' traditional hemp slippers, for priests of the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Made by Self-Help Groups in Himachal Pradesh, these slippers accommodate rituals restrictions at the holy site by being allowed inside the premises.
Upon learning about the locally-crafted footwear, crafted in Jai Ram Thakur's Seraj constituency, Modi facilitated their use by the temple priests. Ensuring they would perform rituals protected from the biting cold, he organized procurement through personal connections.
The Prime Minister's office received the slippers, and Modi ensured payment of Rs 12,000 to the craftsmen. Thakur shared Modi's humility and commitment to cultural preservation, as evidenced by this act of kindness.
