Revamping Delhi: A New Hub for Filmmakers
Delhi slashes filming fees in a bid to transform into a filmmaking hub. Despite lower fees and a single-window clearance system, uptake remains low due to perceived bureaucratic hurdles. Economic incentives and planned film festivals aim to enhance Delhi's appeal, positioning it as a rival to Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has significantly reduced its filming fees, cutting down costs from Rs 75,000 to Rs 25,000 per day. Meanwhile, shooting in the Delhi Metro may still cost up to Rs 3 lakh depending on various factors such as location and timing, according to officials.
Aimed at establishing Delhi as a premier filmmaking destination, the Delhi Film Policy 2022 introduced a seamless 'e-Film Clearance' portal linking 25 agencies to assure swift approvals. Despite the streamlined process, adoption has been sluggish, with only 39 shoots in three years.
The policy's goal is not just fiscal; it aims to position Delhi as a global filmmaking hub by offering scholarships, expanding film schools and hosting international festivals. With a bolstered budget and an ambitious target to triple application clearances, Delhi hopes to compete with Mumbai and Hyderabad.
