Inclusion Triumphs: Banu Mushtaq's Inauguration at Mysuru Dasara

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday strongly supported his government's choice to have International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara festival. Amidst controversy, Siddaramaiah emphasized that the decision reflects the inclusive nature of the event and has garnered widespread acceptance.

Addressing the gathering, Siddaramaiah declared Dasara a festival for all, transcending religious and caste boundaries. He asserted that Mushtaq's role honors Karnataka's rich tradition of cultural unity, despite criticism from some circles. Allegations regarding Mushtaq's past comments perceived as 'anti-Hindu' and 'anti-Kannada' spurred opposition.

BJP leaders expressed objections, contending her involvement disrespects established religious sentiments. However, Siddaramaiah countered by highlighting historical precedents of diverse participation in Dasara. He reiterated the state's commitment to secularism, urging political adversaries to refrain from exploiting the situation for selfish motives.
