The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is set to honor the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a series of 'padyatras' across India's numerous districts. The initiative, dubbed 'Sardar@150', was officially launched at Dhyan Chand stadium by ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Raksha Nikhil Khadse.
Describing 'Sardar@150' as more than a commemoration, Mandaviya emphasized its importance as a national movement. He noted that the initiative aims to engage the nation's youth in efforts to build and maintain unity, much like Patel himself did by uniting over 560 princely states to create a cohesive India.
The padyatras will be held from October 31 to November 25, spanning three consecutive days in each parliamentary constituency. All 779 districts in India are expected to participate, regardless of political leadership. A special national-level padyatra from Gujarat to Patel's Statue of Liberty will follow, involving 150 young leaders selected via a national quiz competition.
