A deadly blizzard on the Tibetan side of Mt Everest has claimed the life of one hiker and left many stranded, officials confirmed on Monday. The hiker, a 41-year-old man, succumbed to hypothermia and acute altitude sickness, according to local Chinese authorities.
As rescue teams continue their efforts, 137 hikers have been moved to safety from the treacherous conditions in Qinghai Province. However, as searches persist, several climbers are still missing amidst the continuous snowfall complicating rescue operations.
Authorities have deployed over 300 personnel, more than 10 horse-led teams, and two drones to aid in finding those still trapped. Severe weather conditions have hampered progress, with social media accounts describing strong winds and heavy snow burying tracks, making the rescue operation perilous and challenging.
