Arunachal's Eco-Tourism Bloom: Subansiri Set for Transformation

The government of Arunachal Pradesh has revealed ambitious plans to transform the Subansiri Lower pondage into a top-tier mountain and river tourism hub. The initiative seeks to blend eco-tourism, adventure, culture, and sustainable livelihoods with the state's substantial hydropower capabilities.

Set around the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, poised to be India's largest and fully operational by December, the tourism hub leverages the project's pondage—a unique water storage area. This presents a rare opportunity to build a high-value tourism ecosystem in the biodiverse river corridor.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for support, as well as seeking collaboration with several governmental ministries. The comprehensive tourism strategy encompasses eco-experiences, water sports, culture, and luxury river cruises, drawing inspiration from global natural attractions.
