Madhya Pradesh's Kanha Reserve witnessed the unfortunate demise of a tiger cub, adding to the state's rising toll of tiger deaths that now stands at 23 this year. The tragedy further unfolded with the discovery of an adult tiger carcass in Balaghat district.

Officials reported that the cub, aged between one and one-and-a-half years, was found in the core area of the reserve. Initial findings suggest starvation due to maternal neglect as the cause of the cub's death. A previous cub from the same litter had died earlier this week.

Madhya Pradesh, which leads in the tiger population with 785 tigers according to a 2022 census, faces growing criticism for its conservation practices. Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey expressed deep concern over insufficient monitoring and accountability, urging better management to prevent further losses.
