The government has announced that citizens can submit nominations and recommendations for the prestigious Padma Awards, slated for announcement on Republic Day, 2027. The deadline for submissions is July 31, as indicated in a statement on Monday. Nominations should be made exclusively via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.
Considered among India's highest civilian awards, the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri commend distinguished and exceptional achievements across diverse fields such as art, literature, science, and public service. Launched in 1954, these honors are traditionally announced every Republic Day.
The government reiterates its commitment to making the Padma Awards more inclusive, urging citizens to nominate meritorious individuals, especially from marginalized sections. Government employees, except certain professionals like doctors and scientists, are not eligible. A push is on to transform these into 'People's Padma,' by ensuring a broad spectrum of society is represented and acknowledged.
