A typically tranquil setting at a Kidangoor temple transformed into a scene of chaos on Friday after a captive elephant turned violent. The sudden outburst resulted in the death of a lorry driver and injuries to the elephant's main mahout, police reported.
The rogue elephant caused significant damage, overturning a car multiple times and wreaking havoc on nearby two-wheelers. Forest Department's Elephant Squad intervened as the animal moved toward more populated areas.
After being tranquilized, the elephant briefly became more agitated before ultimately calming down. It was restrained by tying ropes to its hind legs and securing it to trees. Despite its history of calm behavior, the cause of the elephant's agitation remains uncertain.
