Actor-filmmaker Riteish Deshmukh unveiled his dream project 'Raja Shivaji' after a decade-long struggle. The historical epic charts the life of the legendary Maratha Empire founder, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, with Deshmukh not only starring but also co-writing and directing the film.
Initially announced in 2016, the film encountered multiple delays due to various factors, including the pandemic, before its completion in 2023. Deshmukh stated that these delays allowed the project to grow 'bigger and better', with significant contributions from actors across the Marathi and Bollywood industries.
Though the film has faced some criticism over its technicalities, its performances and emotional depth have been lauded. While a trilogy was initially considered, no concrete plans for sequels exist. 'Raja Shivaji' has grossed Rs 48.60 crore at the domestic box office across its Marathi and Hindi releases.
