The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a significant religious pilgrimage, will see a 20% hike in its total cost this year. Officials confirmed the increase in costs which now total Rs 2.09 lakh. Currency fluctuations have been cited as a major reason for the rise, particularly impacting travel expenses in Tibet.
Set to commence on July 4, the pilgrimage includes a leg via the Lipulekh Pass in Pithoragarh district. The Ministry of External Affairs oversees the collection of fees for the Tibet portion, factoring in visa fees, medical expenses, and miscellaneous costs during the stay in Chinese-controlled territory.
The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) has revised Indian leg rates by Rs 8,000, placing the domestic journey cost at Rs 65,000 per pilgrim. Ten batches of 50 pilgrims each are expected to participate this year. The pilgrimage holds immense religious importance as Hindus believe Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva, making the journey a path to spiritual salvation.
