A group of tourists from Mauritius faced a harrowing experience when their tempo traveller encountered a brake failure in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district, police said. The mishap occurred as the vehicle was traveling to the revered Himalayan shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath, following visits to Gangotri and Yamunotri.

The incident occurred near the Dugadda police post in Kirtinagar around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. Thanks to the driver's quick response in applying the handbrake, a potential disaster was avoided, and the vehicle came to a safe halt. The driver, Kanhaiya, reported the issue promptly, leading to intervention by local police, who called a mechanic for repairs.

As the vehicle was being fixed, the officers opened the kitchen at the Kotwali outpost for the stranded tourists. A video emerged showing tourists preparing meals, with one tourist expressing gratitude for the police's kindness and accommodation. The group departed safely after the vehicle was declared fit for travel, informed Inspector Sanjay Mishra.
