An exhibition was inaugurated in Chandigarh, spotlighting the groundbreaking ideas of Polish architect Maciej Nowicki, a visionary whose untimely death altered the city's architectural journey. Titled 'Humanist Modernity: The Unbuilt Chandigarh of Maciej Nowicki,' the event celebrated his influence on the city's early planning stages alongside American planner Albert Mayer in 1949.
The exhibition, inaugurated by Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad, showcased Nowicki's vision through original drawings and master plans, emphasizing climate-sensitive urban planning and community-centric design. Attendees enjoyed a short film and a performance by Polish singer Michal Rudas, adding a cultural dimension to the celebration.
Dr Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of the Polish Mission in New Delhi, highlighted Nowicki's deep sensitivity towards human values and the environment, hoping his ideas would continue to inspire future architects. The exhibition, organized in collaboration with international institutes, remains open until July 2026, offering an immersive look at Nowicki's enduring legacy in Chandigarh's design and architecture.
