Amidst the bustling heritage of Jaipur, a lesser-known gem quietly endures—the Doll Museum. Nestled in Seth Anandi Lal Poddar School for the Deaf and Mute on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, this intriguing museum preserves an eclectic collection of dolls representing global cultures.
Established in 1974 and inaugurated in 1979, it was the brainchild of Kanti Kumar Poddar, inaugurated by then-chief minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Today, it houses over 500 dolls, reflecting traditional costumes from Rajasthan to 60 other countries. Principal Bharat Joshi highlights how each doll captures cultural nuances—attire, customs, and way of life.
Despite its rich diversity and educational value, visitor numbers have dwindled. Once a popular excursion spot, it now faces obscurity due to limited promotion and tourist preferences for more prominent attractions. The museum stands as a poignant reminder of the minor but significant heritage waiting to be unveiled.
