RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Tuesday said the Namokar mantra could help promote peace and harmony across the world and provide spiritual calmness to people.
He was speaking at the inauguration of an exhibition by artist Jain Kamal at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai.
Hosabale said merely chanting the Namokar mantra brings peace to the mind and can also contribute towards establishing harmony and peace in the world.
'The exhibition is presenting a journey of letters and scripts while also offering spiritual peace to visitors,' he said.
The exhibition titled 'Vishwa Shanti Sathi Namokar Mahamantra' is being held from May 26 to June 1 between 11 am and 7 pm at Jehangir Art Gallery.
Notably, the Namokara mantra is considered the most significant mantra in Jainism and one of the oldest mantras in continuous practice.
Hosabale also recalled an incident from the Emergency period in Bengaluru jail. He said detainees from different backgrounds regularly recited the Namokar mantra as part of their daily routine, and it helped bring people together.
Mantras formed through letters were eternal and not created by individuals, but emerged naturally, he said.
'Our sages and saints gave these mantras to society, and Jain Kamal has presented them before the world through his script-based artwork,' he added.
Hosabale further said the works displayed at the exhibition were not merely paintings but represented a creative universe.
Referring to typography, the senior Sangh leader said English had several fonts presented in different forms, while only a few artists had worked on creating Devanagari fonts.
'In the field of Devanagari font creation, Jain Kamal's name has remained at the forefront,' he added.
At the event, Jain Kamal said each artwork in the exhibition offered a distinct and new experience to visitors.
He said the first section of the exhibition featured works based on the Namokar mantra, while the second section was dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's work. The final section showcased publication design works, he added.
Jain monk Nayapadmasagar Surishwar Ji Maharaj said the Namokar Mahamantra is a universal mantra and a means for spiritual purification. He said collective strength and spiritual practice together could contribute to the welfare of humanity and the world.
