A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed 'Donald Trump' for its distinctive blonde tuft, has been saved from Eid al-Adha sacrifice after government intervention, a Home Ministry representative revealed on Wednesday.
Selling for ritual slaughter, the 700-kg animal was given a reprieve after a spike in public enthusiasm and subsequent security concerns. Ordered by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, the buffalo was spared, the purchaser refunded, and it was transferred to Dhaka's national zoo.
The buffalo became a national curiosity, its image going viral as crowds flocked to its location to see its unique features. Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha noted the nickname was assigned by his brother due to its resemblance. The animal is gentle and requires regular care in a country where such buffaloes are rare.
