The Lamphelpat Water Body Rejuvenation Project in Imphal marks a significant leap toward sustainable urban development. With an investment of Rs 650 crore, this initiative is poised to redefine the city's approach to water management, addressing flood issues and spurring ecotourism growth. Currently, the project is 60 percent through its dredging phase, underlining the swift progress of one of Manipur's crucial infrastructure projects.

Stretched over 300 acres, the rejuvenated water body will hold 124 million cubic meters of water, enough to quench the thirst of over four lakh residents. This project's objectives extend beyond water management, also including a bold vision for recreation and tourism. A state-of-the-art recreation zone covers 140 acres, aimed at enticing both locals and tourists, complemented by a proposed cable car linking the area to the Imphal View Tower at Cheirao Ching.

Classified as an Integrated Flood Risk Management project, Lamphelpat is set to protect the flood-prone Imphal valley while promoting ecological balance. Project manager Saimul Islam highlighted the transformation, pointing to advanced dredging measures already covering significant portions of the area. The initiative has been met with community optimism, as locals look forward to increased tourism and restored water bodies, mirroring Manipur's commitment to progressive urban planning and environmental stewardship.
