Russia-Backed Gas Revival Talks: A New Era for European Energy?
Amid tense relations with Russia, the U.S. is engaged in talks to potentially revive Russian gas sales to Europe. Despite Europe's shift to alternative suppliers after the 2022 Ukraine conflict, some industry insiders suggest that a peace deal could open doors for renewed gas agreements with Moscow.

Amid icy relations with Russia, the United States is considering involvement in reviving dormant gas ties between Moscow and Europe, eight sources have told Reuters. Rising from the ashes of European gas cuts due to the Ukraine conflict, this potential shift could realign energy strategies in the region.
Following significant slashes in Russian gas imports after Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. and Russian officials have exchanged dialogues. With U.S. President Donald Trump advocating for peace, a renewed gas deal with Russia may not be far off, industry experts hint.
Washington's participation could not only soften European political resistance but also offer it control over gas flow resumption. Despite barriers such as EU legal challenges and lingering post-conflict European skepticism, U.S. and Russian stakeholders continue exploring investment pathways to revive Gazprom's energy business in the continent.
