In response to mounting cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday commanded all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to maintain a vigilant stance. Addressing a high-level meeting, CM Sukhu gathered extensive updates from district heads on the current situation in their areas, as per an official statement.
The Chief Minister assured that there is no immediate cause for panic but stressed the importance of remaining cautious statewide. Essential government offices, including his office, the Chief Secretary's office, and Control Rooms supported by necessary staff, will continue to operate throughout the upcoming holidays.
Highlighting preparedness, CM Sukhu advised that districts bordering other states must promptly implement measures upon any warning signals, especially in vulnerable regions like Pathankot, Chandigarh, and Jammu and Kashmir. Instructions from both the Union and State Governments must be strictly followed to ensure public safety.
Emphasizing security, he called for reinforced protection of key infrastructure, such as religious sites, airports, dams, and bridges, and directed the regular execution of mock drills aligned with federal advisories. He pledged support towards enhancing statewide Control Rooms and expressed robust solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces and the central government, praising their decisive actions against recent threats.
CM Sukhu urged state residents to trust government communications and disregard rumors or misinformation. High-ranking officials including the Principal Advisor for Media to the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary, along with other top bureaucrats, attended the meeting physically in Shimla, while district leaders participated via video conference.
