The Indian Armed Forces effectively thwarted a massive drone offensive launched by Pakistan Army last night, targeting Indian positions from Ladakh's Siachen base camp to Gujarat's Kutch area. According to Defence sources, 300-400 drones were deployed across 36 locations, with most being neutralized.
Most of the drones were unarmed, equipped with cameras and possibly transmitting footage back to Pakistani ground stations. India's air defense systems neutralized the threats before significant damage could occur. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation at South Block following the attempted attack.
The assault was perceived as a retaliation to Operation Sindoor, during which India targeted nine terror infrastructure spots in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, responding to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. On the night of May 8-9, India's military repelled and responded to multiple drone invasions along the western border and the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
In an official statement, the Indian Army declared, "The Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and munitions along the Western Border on May 8-9, 2025, also breaching ceasefire protocols in Jammu and Kashmir. All hostile actions were effectively countered." The indigenously developed Akash missile system significantly contributed to neutralizing these aerial threats. The Army and Air Force have strategically deployed these missile systems along Pakistan's border.
